A Virtual Space

One striking difference between virtuality and reality is how our body is integrated in our experience. Virtual events create some discrepancy between the sensations of our physical self and the images that are processed in our brain. Our thoughts can be absorbed in fighting swords in a war while our bodies sit motionless on a couch.

I wanted to take this separation of body and head and turn it into a physical experience. A room filling surface made of foam cubes was suspended from the ceiling at a height that visually separated the head from the body. Visitors were encouraged to enter this field of pixels and engage in this irritating but playful experience.
